MP3 playback
#1
Does anyone know if any current BMW model's or the new 5's CD player can playback MP3 or not? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the new 5's CD player would playback MP3, but I can't find any reference. I sure hope that the new 5 will playback MP3.

The optional 663 Radio BMW Professional has Mp3 Playback
This is 100% sure, it says so in my european pricelist.
The 663 Radio BMW Professional is also included in 606 Navigationsystem Business (which you guys in the US don?t get) and 609 Navigationsystem Professional.
So the answer is yes. The new 5 will play Mp3 if you order 663, 606 or 609

Nope, WMA is not mentioned anywhere so I don?t really know...
Speaking of Radio/CD units....
Did anyone notice that there is both a CD-slot and below that a DVD slot on the picture below. Look below the CD-slot. It?s a bit hard to see but the european brochure has the same pic and there you can clearly see that it says DVD right next to the slot below.
The Business navigation system has only one slot but uses the same DVD discs as the Professional navigation system on this pic. The pricelist states that there is an optional CD-changer, DVD changer and the two mentioned DVD navigation systems but no single DVD reader.
There are no Navigation units in the trunk. So the DVD slot is either for the Professional navigation system or a single DVD reader that is not mentioned in the pricelist.
Also in the car i drove today which had the Business navigation system the I-drive Entertainment menu had one headline that read Video which if I remeber correctly was located under the Logic 7 menu.
I don?t know what that means. I guess I have to do some more digging....

Maybe I can help. I?ve just downloaded the equipment brochure and of the options is ?DVD changer (6DVDs), in luggage compartment?. Excuse my ignorance, but does it mean that you can see a DVD on the screen (control display I think)?

From the Roundel magazine I read, it said that the system uses the in dash CD player as the DVD drive storing the programmed routes inits memory. All models here in the USA will be prewired for 6 disc CD changer fitted way in the back of the glove box near the fuse box cover.
