I've noticed a lot of mo3 discussion going on in the recent posts so I decided to try to resurrect this post
If you could put your model/producitonyear/radio option/Nav option/ adn whether you can play mp3's it may be helpful to some people so they can look here and see what other people with the same set up are experiencing. This post has gotten a good resposnce from non US memebers, but US memebers seem to skip it. It seems now that all people with nav can get mp3's, but I am not sure how far back those without NAV can get get mp3's. I know for sure that post 9/05 production without Nav can, but how about 3/05 production or any 2004 production?'
Thanks in advance

dgjk: Thanks for resurrecting this post. I have been asking the same q from US w/Nav pre-03/05 production, but have not received any response previously.

Come on US folks out there......someone, anyone, updated to CIP 20 on their pre-03/05??

Had my car upgraded 2 weeks ago. Not sure what version.

My car was built end of October 2004. It has prof Nav. After upgrade it still doesn't play MP3.

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. Does the CD need to be in a special format? I just copied MP3 onto the CD. It recognises it's a CD, but it says it has one track, which is just digital noise

Your dealer needs to go through an additional step after CIP20 upgrade, called retro procedure for MP3 to enable MP3 - take the car back - it should only take about 10-15mins and covered by warranty.

USA, 9/2005, Prof Radio, Nav Pro, MP3 works
For those who are still having trouble, this is what I did - take the mp3's and use a tagging program (MusicBrainz is a great free program) to have the artist, album, title information updated. Burn the files into CD-R as a data CD. To get the detailed info about each track beyond the file name, just check the Details option from the menu that pops up when you click on one of the tracks.
