I had that immediately after having had the retrofit too. Here's the thoughts I had:

- maybe the bit-rate of the MP3s was too high on some of the songs.
- maybe having VBR (variable bit rate) on some of the songs was a problem.
- maybe it was just that specific disc that was a problem.

So I used GoldWave to batch convert all my MP3s to fixed bit-rate of 128kbps. Then I burned a brand new disc (same disc type, same PC, same software (Nero 6)) and tried that.

Since then, I've had no problems with skipping. Which of those three things was it? I don't know. Considering that my MP3 library reduced in size from 9GB to 7GB I'm happy with my new files.

After that success, I also switched to CD-RW (where I was previously using CD-R) and it's still working just fine.

There is one exception, a few seconds or so after I start the car, the audio drops out for about a tenth of a second. It happens every time, but only the once per driving session. Doesn't bother me.

Ok, Great. I'll try it.
Have you ever experienced of not-retrieving the CD at all?
Which brand of CD you use?

The CD-R's were noname super cheapo from the local supermarket. Absolutely nothing special at all. The CD-RW's are TDK's, not because I think they're good, just because they were the best value in the store I was in.

Thanks alot DD_545i. you're really helpful.
A quick question, and I expect that you might know the answer. I had a loaner vehicle 530i 2007 for couple of days last week, and I tried the same mp3 CD on that which was giving me problems by skipping the songs. And it didn't see any problems at all in reading the contents of CD, even it was showing me mp3 at the bottom left corner and showing me all the details on the song track.

They haven't did proper mp3 retrofit on my 530xi 2006, or does it something else?
Thanks for your help again.
