My Ride: BMW 525iA 2007 white, beige interior, buisness navigation, buisness phone, Xenon lights, Auto adaptive lights, CD changer
Smile

My brother bought this week a Lexus GS300, it has a nice lovely CD Changer.
So I tried to load MP3 CD's in it, and I was surprised to see it is playing the MP3.
So I loaded one more MP3 CD to check how many CDs it will play. and amazing. It is playing all MP3 CD's loaded in each place.

I think this is a great feature (one point for Lexus ;-) ), So Could BMW will update the software (if possible) to do the same in future?

I think all of us interested to do that instead of changing between navigation DVD and a MP3 Cd in same place.

Could we ask BMW to do it?

It would be nice to see a software-only upgrade that gives us MP3 capability with the CD changer. I'm not sure how they'll do it but according to a document from January 2006, it states that this feature will be available in January 2007.

MP3_drives.pdf

Whether or not it means that newer hardware will support it beginning then or older hardware with updated software will support it remains to be seen, I think.

I assume 03/07 means March 2007 rather than January 2007.

Regarding e60 CD changer MP3 capability specifically, this document is counter to others posted on this site (it doesn't make it wrong of course) and TBH, without fully understanding its status, could've been created by almost anyone!

I'll wait Junuary or even March 2007, hoping it is a software update.

Yup. I'm running 3 MP3 discs in my IS and 3 regular CDs. But I hate how Lexus locks EVERYTHING up once you start moving. cant do anything on the NAV screen anymore

The ipod software update does pretty much the same thing, if we had a oem MP3 changer then we will just need to install that in place of the ipod adapter we have now. notice when you play the ipod its says MP3 CD 1, which means the adapter is a mp3 cd emulator so in future when we will have a MP3 CD changer it will be a very easy swap. I just dont get it why BMW didn think of the MP3 before, after all Germans are the ones who developed MP3.......

I don't see what the big deal is.

An MP3 CD can hold, say, 7 hours of listening. What severity of Attention Defecit Disorder does it take to have to change MP3 CDs between fuel stops?

what would appeal to me is to be able to have just about all of your music collection available from the idrive screen. If you have to swap cd's you dont get the nice big library effect.....

cheers
