Sorry to create another MP3 thread but I still don't have a clear answer on this.

I'm one of the early adopters of the E60 (Prod. date 03/04) and did not get NAV and no CD changer either. I've been trying to get my M-ASK unit to play MP3 discs so far with no success.

All of you out there with this same configuration, could you please post in here if you are able to play MP3 CDs or not and if you are, what did you do to get it to work

Nope you cannot play MP3s in your car. Sorry. Just accept the fact and enjoy the Single Disc CD.

And what is the reason for this? is it the M-Ask unit? Can I retrofit another one?

As another early adopter (Jan 04 prod.) we're in the same boat. Yes, as I recall it is the M-ASK unit. I know other early adopters have had the M-ASK unit replaced to get Bluetooth functionality but I can't recall if anyone has had similar success w/ MP3 playback. And the M-ASK unit is not cheap, around $2,000 as I recall. Hopefully we can get one of those folks who have changed the M-ASK unit chime in and let us know if MP3 works for them.

But frankly I'm with EBMCS03 on this. There was lots of debate early on because some folks were (or thought they were) promised MP3 playback when they bought the '04 model. Frankly it would be nice to have but MP3 playback or lack thereof is not a deal breaker for me. Between the in-dash CD, the six disc in the glove box and Sirius, I have all I care to listen to...

My M-ASK unit was replaced not long ago. Replacement part number is:
65126942521 RMFD ASK WITH C/D That did not help, unless additional programing was needed. My CIP was updated to the most recent one as well, that did not help either.

I remember seeing a Service Bulletin here, but I think it only applied to vehicles equipped with CCC, can somebody with Service Bulletin access chime in please?

I also have an 04 and I cannot get MP3 capability on my car... no bluetooth either. Had to settle for iPod / AUX and bluetooth earpiece.

They were able to activate bluetooth on mine, I had to pay for it but it was activated via one of those CIP update BT retrofit. I really don't use it that much, I don't think the sound quality is really that good, at least that is what the people I call tell me.
