Thanks

Pro radio scans the frequencys for all available stations and displays them in a special menu.

Business will not work on mp3 even if you put 16.2 soft. I tried it on mine and a friend of mine as well with a 530I from 11/2004 and nothing.... On the models 2005 it should work (at least with the X3).

Nope.
Radio Business is not supposed to give MP3 playback. Not even on a MY05.

[Is it possible to buy an upgrade to radio proffesional?

Jannek...I asked this at my local dealership as I'm really dissapointed that my no nav, bus radio equipped 530D will never apparently play MP3s. I was told that it would probably be "well over a ?1000" to go from bus to pro radio, it is a dashboard out job. Needless to say I laughed (hysterically)

When I bought my 525d the BMW literature was quite clear. Professional Radio was described as adding the extra channel stuff, plus ability to play MP3. I have NO NAV (due to compatibility issues with Bluetooth) and went for Prof Radio ONLY so I can play MP3s. Not I got upgraded I am still on a high playing 170 tracks on 1 CD.

In my view it is quite clear in black and white in 2 different BMW brochures 18months old.

For us here in Europe it was clear. But the US never got this info about the radio pro. They can't order radio pro. The only way for them to get it is nav.

Glad it was clear to you in the literature and you revel in your enjoyment of MP3. Unfortunately for me I shelled out a lot for Logic 7 partly becuase initially I was under the impression that it had the prof radio especially as I was ordering the "professional" HiFi system. It's plain to me by the sheer number of threads on this topic that BMW could have done better here. This is my 4th new 5 series in a row and I never got caught by ticking the wrong options before.

It also appears that our US forum users who chose non Nav cars might never play MP3s as I understand the prof radio is not an option in the US. Was that in the US literature?

AFAIK MP3 was never advertised nor mentioned in any "official" BMW document in the US.
