I realize that there has been a lot of discussion about this topic already, but I would like to get final confirmation from folks that have done it and it actually worked.

I have a 2005 545i with production date of 12/2004.
I just got my SW upgraded to version 20.02.
That enabled RDS on my car, but unfortunately not mp3.
I talked to my Service Rep. at BMW Mtn. View and he is trying to help me, but
he said that his Tech guy is saying that mp3 won't work on my car being
that is is a 12/2004 production date.

Now, I think it would work as long as they select to install the feature
during the SW update. I have seen the posting where BMW is doing mp3
retrofit for cars with production date of 3/2005-9/2005, unfortunately my car
is older.

Can you guys let me know if you have mp3 working on your cars with production
dates that are around the same as my car? (Please note that I am in the US
and my car has Navigation and Logic 7 with the 6 CD Changer).

If you have any specific details on how mp3 might have been enabled on
cars with older production dates that would be appreciated.

Thanks

I personally think "it should" work too but I dont think anyone has had luck wiht that in the US yet...

I mean... yours already have Professional Radio... just like those in Europe who some have gotten older E60s to work with MP3s

Unless BMW had 2 different Professional Radios... what else does it take for MP3 to work? the 7 series i think had mp3 capability since May 2005.

$0.00 cost

No, I do not believe so. Just happened that it failed during the process somewhere. I believe SA told me MP3 was already working and when they did the post upgrade checkout (reload all CKMs, NAV, ASK calibration, etc) the TCU was found at fault (no SOS to BMW assist). Seems like this has been happening alot. But it may be this upgrade is showing the weak link in the pre 03/05 TCUs. Also note that both the TCUs and CCCs now must have a PuMA case opened before BMW will allow them to be replaced. Ususally means a campaign to find root cause and / or lack of parts availability and resources are scarce.
