I've seen some people complain about a MOULD like smell from their AC. How many of you had BMW "clean" the system, and did they charge you for it? My dealer wants $140 to do it. Its sad that my $40k+ car stinks and they want me to pay to clean it.

If your cars stinks then that is a waranty issue.. A 40k car should not smell strange from the airconditioning.

try blowing your AC at max speed for 10 mins and see if the smell goes away.

my dealer cleaned mine for free while I was in for the fuel line clip recall. Of course it was back in short order as I use the AC everyday here in New Orleans.

I have no odor from the AC. However I do try not to use the re-circulate air too much. I know for all car this is a reason for the bad smell from the vents when AC is on.

I've had that issues before on other non-BMW's and needed to desinfect the system.
But at start up you can use the max button for just about ten seconds and it should go away. if not you could try to use max longer... If that doesn't solve the problem you'll have to get it desinfected...

I know a lot of people in the uk who swear by this product to kill bacteria etc in their air con, anyone tried it in an E60 ? apparently leaves car smelling nice too

http://www.commaoil.com/Product%20Pages/Ma...airconclean.htm

only need to do this about once per year, cost in the uk is about ?12 a can, its a bit dramatic, like setting a smoke bomb off inside the car.
