Now why does bmw not use bigger displacement engines atleast offered to the USA as we are by far their biggest market? I understand in europe there is various costs with having larger engines in taxes or fees or whatever but why not market one here.

I mean how sweet would an I6 3.5 liter be. Or their v8 in a 5 liter. Then it wouldnt always be a compromise between little torque and mostly upper rpm power--even in the M series (until turbo came along)

I guess I would have liked to see a bump in displacement and keep the NA strategy.

With the technology and a 3.4 L I6 engine they could have gotten 330HP easily and be NA and have a good amount of torque

Almost 20 years ago BMW did explore a larger displacement I6 for the E34 and tested it in parallel to the V8 that was then in development. The 4.0L I6 was dropped in favor of the V8 because marketing thought it would be easier to sell a V8. As for the ~5.0L, they have made them for the X5 and M5's (E39). Displacement isn't a huge priority for me if the tradeoff is weight. However, I really did like the 3.3L I6's that BMW used to make although the 3.0L now puts out more power and torque.

A: efficient dynamics, smaller displacement + FI + KERS
Later comes electric assist/mini nuclear reactor/any tech other than petroleum.. etc

BMW has always had small displacement...high rpm...high power. Even before all of these efficient dynamics shenanigans...
