Correct. Moon roof = sliding glass, Sun roof = sliding steel (painted body color).

Okay, so I take it that our E60s are equipped with moon roof. Sun roof is history then; at least for now.

Just picked up car.

They replaced the moonroof, and my noise is gone.

I had the problem with the loud noise when shutting from a tilt position. My service advisor told me that it is a fairly common alignment issue and they were able to fix it easily. Have not had the problem again even with the very hot days here in Virginia.

Damn, I thought I was lucky since I did not notice the problem when this thread started. Now I have this loud Supersonic boom pop too. It has happened while closing the moon roof from the tilt up position. I had the car in the garage so it wasn't hot at all. It happened 3 times out of maybe 8 times use.

So can it be realigned fairly easily? If so, I would bring this issue up next time. Is there a bullitin regarding this issue?

I just had this fixed on my car last week. They replace the entire sunroof. Apparently some of the original fittings were plastic and they are now metal. Anyway, now it is quiet when it closes.

Guys/Gals, search the forum for sunroof/moonroof problem. This seems to be a big issue with the moonroof/sunroof assembly in the e60. Dealer will fix the problem. I had mine fixed, first with the supersonic boom sound, then the tilt to close sound. Remember to tell the dealer to "BE CAREFUL WITH THE PAINT JOB" when fixing it because they can scratch your roof and you not know about it.

[quote name='lcc014' date='Aug 3 2005, 09:19 PM']Operation of the sun roof is fine and quiet.? However, the closing of the moon roof makes me concern.? I seldom use the moon roof and the car is only 9 months old.

Can anybody tell me the difference between the moon roof and sun roof?

BTW, I too get a very distinctive sound like there's a nut or screw hitting the glass when closing from tilt position. My ride is only 9 months old also. I've had too many problems with the E60 so far.

I always thought they were the same thing. When we were a Ford dealer, they called everything a moonroof. Yet GM or whoever called theirs a sunroof. From what I see BMW's must be considered a moonroof then? What are they called in the specs?
