Correct.? Moon roof = sliding glass, Sun roof = sliding steel (painted body color).

Just picked up car.
They replaced the moonroof, and my noise is gone.

I had the problem with the loud noise when shutting from a tilt position. My service advisor told me that it is a fairly common alignment issue and they were able to fix it easily. Have not had the problem again even with the very hot days here in Virginia.

Damn, I thought I was lucky since I did not notice the problem when this thread started. Now I have this loud Supersonic boom pop too. It has happened while closing the moon roof from the tilt up position. I had the car in the garage so it wasn't hot at all. It happened 3 times out of maybe 8 times use.
So can it be realigned fairly easily? If so, I would bring this issue up next time. Is there a bullitin regarding this issue?

[quote name='lcc014' date='Aug 3 2005, 09:19 PM']Operation of the sun roof is fine and quiet.? However, the closing of the moon roof makes me concern.? I seldom use the moon roof and the car is only 9 months old.

BTW, I too get a very distinctive sound like there's a nut or screw hitting the glass when closing from tilt position. My ride is only 9 months old also. I've had too many problems with the E60 so far.

I always thought they were the same thing. When we were a Ford dealer, they called everything a moonroof. Yet GM or whoever called theirs a sunroof. From what I see BMW's must be considered a moonroof then? What are they called in the specs?
