It's all John's (Brabus...) fault.

As said above, I can confirm that its called Ambient Lighting. Its suppose to keep you alert at night time driving.
Also for what its worth, when I placed an order on my 2007 525i, I was told by my CA that the lighting is only included if I get premium package.

really its an option? crazy i was just talking specifically about the light on the door handles the drivers side, prelci has a light underneath the window switches facing down illuminating the door handle, does the lci have it was all? and if it does where did they move the light to to achieve this effect? btw i HATE how they changed the doors, anyone else?

Actually, Bruce, it's called (at least on my new MINI) "ambience" lighting. Yes, I can change it from puple to blue to orange and might even get some green.

It's only moody if you prowl around in the dark.

I have to admit it's nice on our mini to be able to change the colours but once I got the shade of blue I liked it kinda stayed that colour. Would be nice of all the other dashboard lighting in the car changed to match. That would be a cool addition to the BMW.

If I remember correctly, even my E36 had ambient lighting. I think they're pretty standard across the BMW line.

I do not see the light that shines on the interior door handle and map pockets in the LCI pictured. My 2001 325 had lighting that was cast down by the pinholes in the overhead light. The front windows and lock switchs were also illuminated. In the back the pwr window switches were not illuminated.

I think some people may be confusing the outside lights that shine from the underside of the mirrors when unlocked and the lights in the bottom of the door panels that comes on when the door is open with ambient lighting.

In the LCI picture I do not see a dedicated light for the interior door release.
