Default Mirror Mount - Paint flaking/bubbling

Anyone else with on '04 or '05 545i have any issues with the mirror mounts? It looks like galvanized aluminum or something that's been powder coated.
My drivers side has all but flaked off leaving the bare metal and the passenger mirror mount is bubbling and on it's way to flaking off.

Has anybody experienced this on their car? A great little body shop quoted $150 to pull both off, clean them up, paint and reinstall.
I'm curious if there might be new mounts I could purchase pre-painted or even maybe some that are a different style.

Common problem. My mirrors are currently rusting and we just had an 06 in the shop with the same problem. $150 is a decent price. Why don't you just repair them yourself and save the $. Take them off, sand them, prime then paint with satin black.

Thanks - that's good to know. I was concerned it might be a defect. I'll let the shop do it.. I'd end up busting something in the process!

My diver side is doing it too. Plan on eventually sand blasting it clean and repainting it.
