Default Minimum Oil Level - Im freaking out

So I just noticed the Minimum Oil Level sign today on my 2006 525i. I just bought the car from a friend and I dont know much about this car.

The problem is i know we have to top it off or engine damage can occur... but i just noticed it today. I know i havent driven it for a week or anything like that.. but I may have driven it a few days not noticing.

The only reason I noticed it is because i went to the engine oil service myself and it showed that..

Im taking it tomorrow to the shop its due for an oil change anyway, should i be worried i fucked it up??

If you're having it changed tomorrow it will be ok. I would watch it and see if you are using any. All of my cars if I allowed them to go to the service due I would get the message to add one qt just about 1500 prior. After this I decided to change my oil mid point and no longer get the low message

I have the same car and sometimes it comes on about the time it's due for an oil change. It could also be an erroneous message. If it happens again (after this oil change) add just 1/2 a quart of oil to play it safe. Check the electronic oil level the next day. Mine would show up to full level again so 1/2 quart should be safe with minimal risk of overfilling.

2006 525i (with N52 engine) doesn't have a dipstick for oil level checking. Only way to check oil level is via iDrive. Only way to be absolutely sure is to drain oil completely and then pour fresh oil.

I have a 2004 545i and have the same problem. Mine is leaking oil on the driveway so i know it has to be coming from a gasket. Not sure wich one yet since I havent looked to see which one it is. 1qt should be enough to top you off until you get it checked out. Yours maybe leaking but you need to remove the lower engine cover from under the car and see if any oil is there. Hope this helps.
