was wondering if there is a way to change the cruise control from miles to km, since ireland changed to km a while ago and it would be nice to jump 5 km instead of 5 miles with the cruise control paddle.
but under the idrive settings changing the miles to km only affects the display of the mileage.

In Canada, the cruise control increments are set at 10 Km / hour which is equivalent to 6 mph.

If I QUICKLY push and release the cruise control (after the initial setting) then my cruise control speed jumps in one KM increments. If I hold it a little longer it jumps (as you said) in 10km increments. However, I am not aware of any way to change its function. In my case, it wouldn't matter since the tap I refer to would be small in either km or mi.
Maybe it just that way in my car.

I have a U.S. spec LCI and when I change the iDrive settings from miles to km, everyting changes - odometer, trip meter, HUD, NAV info and cruise control adjustments.

+1 on the comment about tapping vs. holding the cruise control lever.

Dude.. your cruise goes with your cluster. If your cluster is in MPH then the cruise is in MPH..and vice versa for KPH
