For the past few days the service interval indicator in the I Drive for the Microfilter in my car was indicating that it will soon be time to change it. I could see the miles going down in the Service section of the I Drive for the Microfilter. Yesterday it went down to 0 miles and the red warning triangle came on the screen indicating to me that it was time to change the Microfilter. The service indicator seemed to be working like it should. I was going to make an appointment this weekend to get it changed. However, today I turned on my car and there was nothing showing up on my screen reminding me to change the Microfilter. So I checked in the Service section of the I drive and now the Microfilter says 1500 miles to change. Does anyone know why it went from 0 miles to 1500 miles overnight? Has anyone seen this before? Thanks.

My microfilter is also due. I called the dealer and they said $60 ea and there's two ($120). The parts dept told me it's easy to install and don't take it to their service department because they will rape me for about $100 to install

The end was very fast.
They are very expensive also, but there are two ways to change them,
the proper or the wrong way.
The proper is the dealer, who does the job as it should be done.
It's not only about changing the filters but also about a quality clean up of the whole air system.

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

Okay, no offense to Ricracing, but I'm tired of all your post always saying that the dealer is the only one qualified to do anything on our cars. For christ sake it's a microfilter that has 1 clip and 1 bolt (that you don't even have to remove, simply turn it 90*). It is quite easily the most user friendly/idiot proof part of your car outside of filling it up with gas.
Do you really think that it's justifiable to pay the dealer $100+ to put in a filter and vacuum out some leaves and dirt from where it is (which you can do yourself) when you can buy the filters yourself online for about $60, do you?

Actually less than $60 if you look around, I used this one and the price is for the two:
