Great info! I had a weird issue last week with my microfilter. It came up in the iDrive stating it needed to be replaced. It went from a yello status to red in 2 days. Now it shows as ok and green again. Should I be concerned? I have to mention it was very hot and I had the AC on those days.

The miles/km untill next micro filter change, changes a lot during the last period.
Mine said 1000 km's left, and said it would like a micro filter change, but after a long trip (1000 km's) on the highway, I had 2000 km's to go

Dont waste your time at the dealer, you can buy new filters at Autozone for $30 and it will take you 10 minutes to change.
Is it $30 for the pair or for just one?
Thanks

Here in the UK, they are about ?18 for the pair (if you don't go to the $tealer)
And 5 minutes to change!

http://www.eurocarparts.com lists the std ones @ ?15.20 each, or ?20.90 for the activated carbon ones.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks to everyone for the excellent instructions above and the general info.
Just changed mine - one less trip to the dealer!
I got mine for $25 here (these are the carbon ones):
