Does anyone know if driving the car more often is a deterrent? My dad has about 4 trucks, 2 Crown Vics and 1 Explorer at his house just down the driveway from my aunt with the BMW loving mice. None of his vehicles are garaged and he has no mice in the cars. The only differences are that his cars are not BMW's and thus have no appeal to mice with a yen for a performance oriented car, he drives ALL of his vehicles several times a month, and perhaps none of his have that special wiring that is so yummy to rodents that another poster made reference to. If driving it more often is one of the key factors then that should be easily addressed. Also, putting some mint and mothballs in the car should be easy as well. Spray? Hmmm, I'm not sure about that - I don't know how she would feel about having chemicals in there were she will be touching and breathing. The electronic device sounds good, too, except she parks the car away from the house on a gravel parking pad and there is no access to an electrical outlet. It sounds like driving it, mothballs & mint are going to be the solutions (AND making sure nothign is left in there that would be tasty). Thanks to everyone for all of the advice & suggestions!

If you google 'mice' and 'mothball' you'll get lots of results. I did see folks using electronic pulse devices, not sure if they impact pets but some investigation should get you what you're looking for. I've done the mothball-bag thing for many years, have not had a problem.

Mothballs work - but a better solution that doesn't smell as bad - and is easier to handle - is dryer sheets. The mice hate the smell. You can stick the sheets anywhere it does not get too hot (like on the engine) - including under the dash, under the seats, in the truck, inside vents, etc.
Also - I believe 1996 was the 1st year for the Z3.
