Okay, this is just sad to admit, but does anyone know how to prevent mice from nesting in a car? My aunt has a 1994 Z3 with only 24k miles on it. She does not have a garage, but has it sitting outside under a car cover. We drove it on Monday afternoon and there was chewed up insulation & mice poop in the passender floorboard indicating that mice have been in there. We live in the country so I'm honestly not sure how to prevent them from getting back in there. Anybody have any ideas?

My car sits out in the elements as well and we're pretty much in the countryside too. Mice.... the best way would be to find where they might be coming in from and fixing that. Other than putting some traps in the car, I wouldn't know what else to do..... Best way would be to take it to a garage, lift up the car and check from the bottom.....?

Moth balls in a bag in the trunk. One in the car. One under the hood. I also put a can over the tailpipe too, get creative but the mothball trick is a classic-car-guy trick.

Have you checked the engine compartment too? The little buggers like it in there too
The moth ball trick sounds worth a try.... but wouldn't it give the the car that moth ball aroma

Buy a cat
I am totally with you on that one, but until her horrid dogs are out of the picture cats are not an option.
Thanks for the tip on the mothballs - I knew they repelled snakes but I didn't know that about mice. I'll get some for her. I don't have the heart to tell her they're in there right now. She's nursing two sick, geriatric horses right now that she raised from foals & I honestly do not think one will make it more than another week or so. I just can't lay this on her too, so I kind of wanted to find a way to fix it for her and then let her know after the fact. She only drives the car once or twice a year as evidenced by the mileage on it.

But you are totally right. They would like the engine area... might want to even open up the air filter, etc
to make sure there aren't any nests in there....
