Don't you guys think somebody at BMW or a smart individual would/could/should come up with a program that would read your ECU and save the settings for your car? I had my car in couple of times for these updates and seems like when I get my car back I have to start all over again. (Seats, mirrors, radio, etc) Especially the wife's settings. Just my 2 cents.

my 545 has this problem too. the radio tone/fader/balance settings always default back to the middle settings, whether it is in radio station preset mode or manual mode, the programmable steering wheel buttons don't remember what they were,it forgets every setting after it goes to sleep, . does the same thing with both keys.

talked to two bmw dealers in san jose, they have no idea why. want to start with a software update. i haven't done that yet, as i'm sure it will evolve into something very expensive when they start to randomly replace components until the problem goes away.

That would be a great idea, if the car could be like anything else and save user settings in a file they could download then replace when they were done working on it. That would make perfect sense.

When i was taking my car to a dealer in chicago, this is exactly what was happening. The dealer which I currently use, this has not been an issue. I am not sure why but when the dealer has done updates on my car, they save off the settings and reinstall them. Not sure how or if this is true. I told my SA that I hate the software updates because of just this and he told me they save that off before they start and reload them. Maybe I am lucky or maybe they don't do this unless you ask?

I had an 08 335i and now 09 535i but after reprograms I had to redo all of my settings except garage door. It is a pain but I like your dealer in Chicago who saves yours. How about saving everything in the key fob? It has the cars info, etc in it as the SA sticks it in a machine to read info off of it.
