MB SL500 VS 550i
#1
I know the SL500 is a 79K car, but used ones can now be had for the price of a 545i....so the questions begs to be asked
If you can to buy one these would you rather be in the sl or the 5 series?
from what I gather the SL is more of a HIGHWAY cruise and the 5 is more of an all around car...
Opinions?

The regular SL 500 doenst look sporty enough for my taste... the SL55 AMG looks correct.
If I had to choose between the SL500 or a 545 with M-Tech Kit I'll take the 545.

The SL500 would look the more sporty of the two but I bet a 545i with a sport package drives better than it. A CLK500 was downright boooring to drive. Plus the 545i gives you a tranny choice, such as the SMG or 6 speed manual. The 545i also throws in the practicality of the 4 doors.

No manual transmission choice in SL, so not an option for me.

My Ride: 2011, X6 Hybrid . Alpine White , every option. 20" Conti' NON runflats,OEM trunk spoiler , LUX V3 AE's , HP Thunder Fogs , custom front bumper reflector delete........
The SL is one of the nicest looking cars on the road IMO , but comparing it with a 5er is a bit apple vs orange . Think 650 Cab vs and you have a debate, the 5er is more practical it most cases. Either way both nice cars but................. it's not a BMW !!

They're both great cars but totally different. The 550 has more go. The SL has the styling and the convertible hardtop. Nothing like cruising with the top down. Don't sell the SL short on handling either. It corners pretty well too. However, it's not a 5 seater either. It all depends on what your needs are. An SL isn't your daily driver if you have a family but for cruising, you can't beat an SL. The 550 is a beast but for me, the SL is fast enough.
