If you want to accelerate as fast as possible, then, IMO, get a Steptronic. If you want "complete" control and simplicity and don't mind having a clutch pedal, then get a manual. If you want what amounts to a manual without a clutch pedal and having an apparently somewhat complex and somewhat quirky tranny that may not shift as smoothly as you want when shifting automatically is OK with you, then get the SMG. Note that many like the SMG. I could tolerate an SMG, but not on anything but an MCar. The SMG is a very good track tranny, but, in general, my preference is to avoid it in anything but an MCar.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Let me help explain that...

If you want to accelerate as fast as possible, then, IMO, get a Steptronic.
Only if you're going from a stand still and drag racing... I think, again... think... that on a roll moving acceleration race SMG or Manual will be better in transfering the power to the ground... but not by much... A auto holding onto 3rd gear waiting for the GO (* stomp on the gas *) reaction will not be as efficient as a manual whos in 3rd already locked up and ready to respond.

If you want "complete" control and simplicity and don't mind having a clutch pedal, then get a manual.
I agree with this part.

Oye... SMG is better than that. dont listen to this part. hahaha

We got people from all the camps chiming in on this. Each one touting that their transmission is the better choice. Not surprised, really.

Latest issue of Automobile magazine flatly states that MB's new sport transmission is hands-down better and smoother than the relatively crude/banging SMG.

On the other hand, I have always owned sticks and find this one to be the worst, by far, in all aspects of handling and direct feel. And that includes the infernal dead pedal that gets in the way of clutching. I think this stick was a throwaway in a car designed for SMG--which has now been surpassed by MB.

Choose wisely.
