Ugh! I was driving locally here in Long Island and apparently they must be preparing this main road for paving as it had the manhole covers seemingly elevated from the road an extra inch or two(a.k.a. they must have dug out some of the existing surface blacktop to prep for a new layer). Well, as these manhole covers are right in the middle of the drivers' lanes it becomes an obstacle course. Unfortunately if there is a large vehicle in front of you, you won't see the 'elevated' manhole cover until it's too late. That's exactly what happened to me tonight and I hit the cover with my front passenger tire. It blew the OEM Dunlop run flat tire and now there is a nice inch long gash in the sidewall...I was able to drive the 2 miles back home with the car having a slight tendency to pull to the right...

My question is...How much further can I actually drive the car with the tire in that condition(to get it to a shop to replace the tire of course)? Also, considering that the OEM Dunlops are impossible to find 'in stock' at any of the online wholesalers/retailers, is it worth the extra money to go with the Goodyear Eagle Gs-D3's($1000 for 4 from tire rack) or try to find a local BMW dealer that carries the OEM Dunlops that will charge me BMW Retail prices($400?)...

Also, does anyone know if I can get reimbursed from the local city/county for the damage that was done from this manhole cover in an area that was even marked as 'Under Construction'?

Any input would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Happened to me also - you might need to get the alignment checked as well.

I've replaced my tires yesterday after waiting 2 months (!!) for my Bridgestones RE050. My tire suplier told me that the Bridgestones are much better runflates than the Dunlopes because theyr sidewalls are more harder.
It's good to have brand new tires, the noise is almost gone.

P.S. If you buy this tires from BMW you will be ripped off. Beware.

No they are not. BMW does offer a tire replacement program within a short period of the delivery (not sure of the limit on # of miles before u canno tget it) at a cost approximately of one tire.

Here in the U.S. with Tire Rack it is alot easier to get replacements in quickly if TIRE dealers (not BMW) don't have them in stock.

Did you buy this from the dealer for $195? Since I am still inside 30 days of purchase, he is offering me 5 years for $349. I am interested in the 3 year plan and have the call in.
