Ugh! I was driving locally here in Long Island and apparently they must be preparing this main road for paving as it had the manhole covers seemingly elevated from the road an extra inch or two(a.k.a. they must have dug out some of the existing surface blacktop to prep for a new layer). Well, as these manhole covers are right in the middle of the drivers' lanes it becomes an obstacle course. Unfortunately if there is a large vehicle in front of you, you won't see the 'elevated' manhole cover until it's too late. That's exactly what happened to me tonight and I hit the cover with my front passenger tire. It blew the OEM Dunlop run flat tire and now there is a nice inch long gash in the sidewall...I was able to drive the 2 miles back home with the car having a slight tendency to pull to the right...
My question is...How much further can I actually drive the car with the tire in that condition(to get it to a shop to replace the tire of course)? Also, considering that the OEM Dunlops are impossible to find 'in stock' at any of the online wholesalers/retailers, is it worth the extra money to go with the Goodyear Eagle Gs-D3's($1000 for 4 from tire rack) or try to find a local BMW dealer that carries the OEM Dunlops that will charge me BMW Retail prices($400?)...
Also, does anyone know if I can get reimbursed from the local city/county for the damage that was done from this manhole cover in an area that was even marked as 'Under Construction'?
Any input would be greatly appreciated...TIA

Happened to me also - you might need to get the alignment checked as well.

It's good to have brand new tires, the noise is almost gone.
P.S. If you buy this tires from BMW you will be ripped off. Beware.

Here in the U.S. with Tire Rack it is alot easier to get replacements in quickly if TIRE dealers (not BMW) don't have them in stock.
