When my car is cold and I put the steptronic in manual mode...I'll get a major clunk...some kind of slippage or a release of some sort in the tranny...maybe rear end...when stopping or slowing down, anyone else experience this type of thing?

I am not sure, but your problem may be what some call the tranny (maybe transmission) slam. Search on this phrase, and you'll probably turn up some info. I occasionally have a loose sort of feel when I go from Auto to DS at very low speed-- when slowing. But, no real slam yet--hopefully never.

Switching from Auto to sport mode goes without a hitch, it appears to be smooth at low speeds especially when downshifting to slow down. Up to now I have not experienced that particular problem.

If it continues, a visit to your dealer may be in order.

Right, and to clarify, I have no problems while manual shifting; my minor problem occurs when going from auto to DS at low speed. It does not appear that my problem and the original poster's problem are the same, but maybe they are related. Actually, I think I am rethinking my problem. Maybe it occurs when going from auto to DS to manual 1st. If so, them maybe my problem is even more closely related to, or the same as, that of the poster.

I had a similar problem that was fixed with a software upgrade.
