Default M54 Vanos Seals Replacement

I'm thinking about tackling this on my 2004 525i... I'm experiencing slow takeoffs, low torque especially under 3k RPM. This is accompanied by poor fuel economy, averaging 14 mpg to be exact.

Is there a step by step for doing this on an E60? I'm particularly interested in the steps leading up to removing the VANOS itself: How to remove radiator cover thing, how to remove fan shroud and fan, how to remove cabin filter housing, and everything else needed to get to the VANOS unit.

Can anyone point me to a proper DIY?

How easy is this repair?

Is your idle stable? Do you have VANOS rattle? VANOS error codes? All signs of VANOS ware. Also have you looked at the DISA? They are a wear item and affect lowend torque... Take a look at GAS...
