hello everyone i am in the market for a 2006 M5 and was not aware that almost all on the market are buy backs. i am in the chicago area and almost every one i have looked at is a buy back. I really had no clue that the m5 had this many issues, never the less are they safe? each dealer is very reassuring that all the faults have been fixed. So my question is

would you buy a 2006 M5 with 19k for $55,000 with remainder of all warranty and service contract. The dealer is allowing me to extend the service contract to 100k but i would have to buy an aftermarket warranty for the 100k.

thanks for your help guys i look forward to joining after i pick one of these bad boys up

Who knows... they bought it back because they couldnt fix the problem in the first place after 3 tries... maybe after the 4th they got it right... I know a members car here that was a buy back because it was in the shop for >30 days because of a batter drain issue... BMW bought it back but during the 1-2 months wait for them to buy back the car was perfect. Ran fine... started up even after sitting for 2 weeks etc.

I had my 07 550 "bought back" and I would never want it back if that helps, the dealer resold it to someone though. Good luck

I wouldn't do it. Even if you get everything covered, you will be without the car if it's always in the shop. Get a lease return with a good history - stay away from buy back IMO.

+1 There are too many quality cars out there to risk it!

I'd stay away.

If it still has you tingling on the inside to buy it I guess the next step would be to look at the service history. See exactly what the issues that caused it to be a buy back. Then contact the dealer who fixed it or the previous owner and get there thoughts.

P.S. 55k isn't that great of deal to take a risk on a buy back(personally I won't touch it unless it was like 40K to 42K). Many 06's out there for 50K to 55K. Take a look on Ebay quick and you'll see your 55K isn't a good deal.

Good point about Ebay. If you are willing to buy a buy-back, then you may as well go the Ebay route and buy one that may or may not be a buy-back, but at least you'll get a better price.

I had a 2008 535xi bought back. The car had several issues which at the end of the discussions and agreements with BMW to buy it back where ultimately fixed. I know who ever gets that car should be fine because of how I pursued BMW to fix the problems and how I treated the car. But there were so many issues that I myself would not want the car back. I guess what you don't know does not hurt.

The car is under warranty, don't think about it so much as long as the car was not a lemon. If you really like the car and they really want to sell it to you then negotiate the price and ask to a see the entire work order process that was done to the car. Then make a choice..

Good luck, Rick...
