Have you looked into solutions or spoken to your dealer?

That's something I'd like to do...I'd have to go with carbon fiber for my interior trim as well, I don't think the cf on the steering wheel would go very well with the wood finish I currently have.

Do you know where I can find this on ebay?
1. Go to Ebay
2. Type in search: "E60 Steering Wheel"
3. Viola!!! There will be a few, i know because i saw them there this morning.

Like the title says, my M steering wheel has a plastic layer that covers it and some of it is starting to peel.

Anyone had this happen? What do you recommend I do?

Happened to me and when I brought it in and they replaced it for free under warrenty.
I just told them the steering wheel is peeling and that this is covered under warrenty.
If you go onto the M5 forums you will see this is a common issue with the M5 steering wheel.
They replaced it with a standard matt replacement and it doesn't have that rubberized coating.

I'm part of this club, too. and plan on taking the car in today. I'll report back my findings ASAP.

I'm also a quart low on oil, so let's see how this goes...

Hope you still have warranty or CPO, they may replace the panels

it's easy to replace yourself. the piece is ~$40 if you're out of warranty. I have one at home since I swapped over to silver on my M wheel, but shipping to CA is a pain.

I found some on eBay. Did you have to remove the steering wheel to install this piece, or do you simply pop off the old one and snap on the new?

I'm interested in hearing the answer to that one, because I'm interested in it too. Think we can get a GP going on?)

Anyway, I took the car to a local BMW dealer and they replaced the peeling wheel trim under warranty. The interesting thing is the service writer knew what I was goign to say before I said it. He said they don't replace it with a mat black piece. They replace it with a new rubberized part that is made differently. (I"m not sure how true that could be.)

The one thing that annoyed me is all three things I needed him to look at (low oil, peeling wheel, over head microphone cover cracked) got an "I don't think it's covered" as the first thing out of his mouth.

They came around and decided to fix it all, but I probably won't go back to that dealer again.

you pop off the airbag, undo 4 or 6 screws (can't remember) then the whole front half of the wheel comes off (buttons, etc.) you flip that over and there's 4 torx screws holding the trim onto that assembly. remove, swap piece, screw everything back in. 20 mins tops.

It happened on my X5 as well and it was covered under warranty, no questions asked.
