Yesterday I was in Spartanburg, South Carolina at the BMWNA Performance Center and attended M-School. We drove M6's, M5's and M3's around a road course, wet and dry skid pads, did forth gear high speed runs, practices individual corners of the track and logged timed runs. What was astonishing was not how fast these cars are, I drive a Dinan Stage II 535 everyday, but how fast they can decelerate! Each car was totally stock with factory brakes/pads/tires. I have done a lot of road course racing (Bridge Hampton, Pocono, Lime Rock) and I still learned a few things at M School. The two instructors, Matt Mullins and PatMazzacane, were great and other than maybe being a Playboy photographer, they have to have the most fun while at work.
The M6 and M5 accelerated the hardest but when it got into the turns the M3 was the car of choice.
I would highly recommend this to anyone. My friend and I drove his new X6 M back to NY today, that was great fun too!

Wow. Thanks for sharing such an awesome experience. It is my point to make it to the driving school for a 2 day event.
Driving the X6M must have been the cherry!

Cool write-up. I wonder if you buy a CPO M-car, does it make a person eligible for the M-driving school? Or does it have to be a brand new purchase?

Money, actually, makes you eligible. (hint The OP has a 535).
1 day = $1295
2 day = $3295
Advanced M = $4200-4600

I don't own an M car and I went. You don't even need to own a BMW, just need to be willing to write the check.

I managed to go with 6 other friends, including wives of some of owners so it made it all the more enjoyable. We were in one group to our selves (obviously others were there as well) and it made our drives very competitive. The husband / wife competitions were great.

I am not sure but some kind of driving is going to made availble to our Southeast Sharkfest group that will be at the BMW plant late this month, 1st of May.

And yes, the cars are amazing.
