So the problem to my audio stuck on mute and no other tones working, is that the "mask" is defective... anyone have ideas of what this may be and whats a fair price to pay a stealership to fix this?

The M-ASK is only available as a remanufactured part from BMW and it costs around $1,000. Then it has to be installed and programmed, so $1,100 doesn't seem like too bad a price. You can always got the eBay or used parts route and install and code the part yourself.
