After driving my new 530XI with the Aero kit for a month I had a chance to drive another 530XI yesterday and the car feels very different. Does the M Aero kit improve performance by reducing weight, drag, etc. or am I just biased towards my own 530XI as most new car owners are?

That is a good question. I doubt that it will enhance the performance and if it did it would be very marginal. I believe that it was your subconscience telling you that the other 530xi was slower than yours.

How's your vacation? As far as the differences with the cars, it probably is male ego with a splash of Italian macho or something. When I was in Germany on a Porschefest last year I toured their factory and it was interesting that they tested and dyno'ed each engine and that some had a 10% + variation in horsepower. Over 10% and the engine went into an executive car for one of the Porsche big shots. I wonder if BMW engines are similar. My car revs to redline noticably quicker than the other 530XI and the handling seemed a bit tighter. It's probably just me....

Hardly any, but at high speeds the bodykit must help to stabilize the car,
do to better airodyamics and also the lower suspension gives a bit better handling.

The enigines are exactly the same wheter or not M Sport pack and a the car weight also
the same.

But if we talk about genuine M cars like the M5 the differance is huge is all meanings.

My Ride: On Order as of May 6- 2007 530i Titanium Grey and Grey Leather, with Sport Package, Premium Pkg, Cold Pkg. 2006 Porsche Boxster
Default

On a side note it is interested that the 5 has a drag coeffient that is lower than a Porsche Boxster or Cayman. Slightly but lower.

Don't know aboout the Mkit, but with the ACS front lip, I feel the car more stable at high speeds ( >200km/h ) - although the drag after 240km/h is higher, thus taking longer to reach top speed...

I own both and I can tell you that above 120mph, the E60 is a hell of a lot more stable than the Boxster.

How fast were you going? Generally, you probably won't be able to feel any aero differences unless you're going above 100mph.

110mph in the other 530, and then about 125 in mine which felt more planted. I only have 2500 miles on mine and my friends 530XI has 14K so it could be related to tires. He noticed the difference too and will probably add the Aero kit. The only other difference is his is a 2006 and I have a March production 2007.

Hmm, the aero kit may very well improve stability at high speeds then.
