So the BMW Keys come with some kind of lubricant on them from the factory. Is it a good idea to maybe re-apply some to the key after it has worn off?
If yes, what kind of lube?

To the members of this fine forum: can we please refrain from making lube jokes?

Thank you

IMHO never lube keys, the lube enables dirt to stick to the inside of the lock and can cause it to jam.

If you want to use anything then graphite dust squirted into the lock is better, being dry lubricant it will not attract dirt.

I use KY Jelly (the blue one) but Vaseline should work just fine as well.

Sorry couldn't resist

it was inevitable

If the key is kept free of dirt I would think no dirt would get into the lock since it is sealed by a metal flap that covers the hole when the key is not inserted.

Yeah, for this bunch it was just too tempting. Then you added "flap" and "inserted." And so it begins....
