This is normal. I've had this happen a couple times myself. Nothing to be concerned about unless you don't add some oil (which you already did).

Yes BMW engines eat oil. My V8 drinks a quart every 5-7k miles.

I have an '07 530xi now @ 47K miles with oil services done according to iDrive notice. During the life of my car two of those changes were done at one-year time intervals even though the CBS showed miles remaining before a change was required. I have never had to add oil between services though many drivers of both 6 and 8 cyl models have indicated they have done so.

Good to know this is normal.

My 2004 530i with almost 90K on it just gave me the low oil warning. This is the second time it has done this in the 6 years I have owned it. It's about a quart low. IDrive says I have 7K left on the oil change, so I can only assume that I have driven about 7K already since I think that the IDrive says 14K off a fresh oil reset. I usually change it myself every 7K-10K anyways, so I guess i'm getting close to that time.

its not that BMW engines eat oil, its that this new interval level of 15000 miles is opening the door to this..... What Im saying is...When we had other cars (not BMWs) and we followed the 3-5k mile oil change intervals, we didnt have to deal with "low oil level" messages. Because we replaced our oil BEFORE it had a chance to begin to burn off. Know what I mean?
So, if we started to change our oil at 3000 miles, I highly doubt anyone ever would get that message on their idrive.

All cars, no matter the manufacturer at 15000 oil change intervals will lose oil.

I have an 06 530i with 61,000 miles and I get this from time to time. I use the Castrol oil they reccomend and sometimes will keep an extra quart in the trunk when I go on long trips just in case. When I get the message I add it and it is immediately fine. Yeah, they just burn a quart from time to time. I usually change my oil every 7K however. I don't listen to the iDrive for oil change intervals.
