i talked to my service advisor about this and needless to say, "no faults found" was what came out from the tech's mouth .
The last time my tech used this term my response was: "I found one...You!" Since that day he uses other terms to describe basically the same...
i don't need another blue eyeshadows .

When I start my car in the morning and put it on drive, my traanny always has a bit of a jerk at the begining only if the car is put first on D. But I do put it on R first then a D i dont feel it. Any idea?

But then after that initial jerk, she drivers like a dream.
i think it's quite normal since your car doesn't have enought time to warm up. try start the car and wait 30 seconds or so, it'll be much better. i know some will say our cars don't need to warm up but the rpm will remain high and that causes the jerky feeling...at least that's what i think .

The AC does not seem to affect the RPM significantly on my car, and does not appear to be part of the issue.

The issue exists in both normal and sport modes (D, DS).

What warm idle speed(s) are you experiencing?
Warm idle @ 500 with no AC... @750 with AC on.

It doesn't bother me after I figured out to go light on the accelerator. Or I've gotten use to it... I wonder also if it could workit'sself out over time with the transmision learning our habits. I've only got about 4200 miles so far and only 1200 are from here at home in the city. Most milage came from Autobahn
I played with the AC a bit more, and the fan speed seems to affect idle RPM more than the compressor being on or off. At high fan speeds, I was able to get the idle to vary between 500 and 750 RPM.

500 RPM still strikes me as too low, and seems to be the source of the stuttering throttle response. I also notice a slight shutter in the car at that RPM, as though the engine really isn't happy there. At 750 RPM, takeoff is always smooth.

My US 545i Steptronic sometimes idles at 500 RPM after it is thoroughly warmed up, which strikes me as being low. At other times, it idles at 750 RPM.

At 500 RPM, I sometimes get a stumble or hesitation starting out from a complete stop. I can avoid this if I gently ease the throttle to slightly bring up RPM before giving it additional gas, but if I just press the accelerator normally, the hesitation occurs.

Comments on 500 RPM warm idle (too low)?

Anyone else have this experience, and, if so, have you had it corrected?
I upped my idle to about 750 rpm and it cured the engine hesitation problem as well as the car sliding back on a steep slope problem. Mine is a E60 520i (2.2 litre engine). For your car, a 545i with idle at 500 rpm stationary, it is like an Olympic 100 m sprinter trying to start off the race lying prone on the track!

you have your dealer do that or you did it yourself? i know it's a easy fix and someone did it to my other cars before.

The dealer did it for me. I know nuts about cars except to drive them.

i told them about this "problem" but the tech said "no faults found" . so if i ask them to do something else, they'll charge me so sure .

Alright today I was paying attention to exactly what is happening. The hesitation seems to be in the Steptronic tranny. Warm idle is 500 rpm's and when I touch the gas the rpm's jump immediately and the jerk seems to come from the transmission engaging. AC on/off, fan on/off nothing seems to have any bearing on the idle speed. Maybe the Steptronic needs to see a certain rpm before it engages for some reason although the car still lurches forward when you let off the break (auto creep).
