Dealer convinced me that system is of "open kind" and that losing that amount is NORMAL. Car is 10000 miles. Engine is R6 530i.

Anybody with similar problem or it's not a problem.

BTW thanks to this forum my DSST Dunlops are going to be changed. I almost suspected bearings in the front wheels for that noise and vibration. Hopefully only tires were wrong.

my car has also done just over 10k miles and i got the low coolant sign on.

the bmw emergency centre told me to just top it up.

this seems rather curious as the manual says that the reawson for the loss should be corrected.

by the way is it okay to use any coolant or do we have to use bmw approved collant

Same here at 12,500 miles. Took very little, not a quart even. I believe the sensor is set pretty high (low loss sets it off) so I do not think the potential for damage is high unless it keeps reoccuring frequently and u started to ignore it.

I just got that warning at 18K although intermittently. My dealer said the level had fallen just below the sensor and was quite normal after a while.

I got the warning yesterday (just over 8000 miles). My dealer told me to just add water...it took about 17oz. I questioned him about the possibility of it freezing during winter months-he said the amount of coolant in there already would, without a doubt, keep it from freezing. Any thoughts?

Probably OK as there would be more than enough glycol in the mixture provided you were not letting the car sit outside for an extended period of time at minus 30.

I had the same warning at 16,000 km. Only came on in the morning when the car was stone cold. Once it warmed up for the day, it was fine.

I put in about a liter of BMW coolant and water. It can get down to minus 40 here so I stopped in at the dealer and they gave me the OEM coolant to put in when the engine was cold.

Same here too 8k miles. WTF? I guess this is normal?

BMW coolant is blue, would it be a problem if we added regular "green" type coolant?

I just don't understand how a SEALED coolant tank can have evaporation? Any thoughts anyone?

The BMW coolant is not run of the mill coolant--it contains no phosphates or nitrites.
