Stream, any advice as to which coolant to buy at wal-mart? I hate going to the dealer.

Sorry, no. I paid $16.50 after discount for a gallon, so I figured it wasn't worth any small potential savings trying to figure out if another brand would work.

There is no problem topping the coolant up with pure water

The reccomended solution is 50/50 ( 50% coolant , 50% water )
The New N52 powered 530i takes 10Liters, if yours went down 0,5Litres and you add 0.5L water your solution is around 52,5/47,5 which is fine

For the guys wondering how you can loose some

Remember the expansiontank cap has a opening that is pressure sensitive, and it is normal that small amounts of steam escape from it.

Isn't it free to top coolant from the dealer?

Was wondering what the capacity is of the 4.4L engine coolant in the 6er. Not contained in '05 manual in the capacities section or under coolant. DO you know?

TIA

yes, but the amount of time in the "queue" dimenishes any free top off you would get. (unless you live with a small city bmw dealer)

I want to add that with my 545i, I too have to add coolant every month or two. I have 135,000Km or 85K miles (give or take) is that normal?

Thanks

Wow, this thread is even older than when I found this forum but Slooky, I don't think it's normal that you have to add coolant every month or two. There has to be a small leak somewhere. Search for the Valley of Death issue if you do not see any other leaks from the hoses.
