I enjoyed our small impromptu SoCal meet and greet?all two of us. Your car looks really nice?and all those added features are great (I?m jealous). Let me know what Beach Auto Sound comes up with?I?ll do my best to make it to Malibu?but that?s a function of whether or not I can peel away from the wife and kids for a half-day?so we?ll see.
Again?great chatting with you?I?m sure we?ll do it again soon.
The 525 did everything I needed it to do...above 30mph. It was just that initial get up and go that was lacking?but once it was rolling I thought that it was adequate. I think the 530 is probably the ideal engine for the E60 and the 545 is overkill for U.S. roads. The 545 between 70mph and 120mph is simply amazing.
Now don?t get me wrong I wouldn?t trade my 545 for the world?it is an amazing machine?it?s just that it shows its true stripes at levels that exceed what is legally permitted in the U.S. (whether that is acceleration from a standing start (exhibition of speed) or rolling acceleration (usually to a limit that is illegal))
When I owned my 525 I test drove the 545 and I was looking to be blown-away by the difference?and I wasn?t?but now 2-months later I am. Point being the 545 is subtle with its brute strength and I don?t think test drives (even extended ones) give you the true sense of the car.
Bottom line?525,530,545?all great cars?the 545 is just more of a good thing
Interesting post. I'm trying to decide between the 530 and 545. I'd agree its hard assess different motors in the same car with a saleperson sitting next to you on a test drive. However, if you stepped back and had a 525 for a month you'd notice the power shortfall (particularly torque) in several situations. To a lesser extent the same would be true of an 530. I guess what I'm saying its easy to get used to high performance and forget how the added power makes certain driving situations effortless. One might not forgot the humbling situations, like a Nissan Altima hounding you from stoplight or while merging on a highway. I know because my old car just can't keep up nowadays. Hondas have 260 hp nowadays, maybe even their new minvans.
I also guess we paid big bucks for cars for the certain time (maybe 5% of time) that we really push it and thats where the real satisfaction comes. Just my two cents.
Good points?to further explain:
I had my 525 for 6-months and nearly 8k miles?were there Nissans, Hondas etc?that were quicker than my 525?sure...but I knew that going in, so there were no issues with that (I didn?t try to out accelerate them)?did my 525 outperform just about everything else on the road in terms of ride/handling/style/etc?yes?so did the faster cars bother me?no. Is the 545 a 5% type of thing?yeah it probably is
What peeved me the most with the 525 was freeway merging?I got pinned into the right lane 3 times by big rigs because I couldn't get up to speed fast enough as I was coming onto the interstate...

But my fellow species, to some of us there is no concept of "too much power". Though we all can manage with 525, if it would not be about money we rather have 545. Like it is everywhere in life.
I don't think here is any "kleinbus" people?
