So I have been getting rid of some weight in my car and I have noticed a HUGE difference in feel of car. For one it is much quicker. Second it just feels lighter.

-Ditched the spare/jack-45 pounds
-ditched the tool kit and some jumper cables-5 pounds
-removed all floor mats, back trun mats-3 pounds
-Run on 4 gallons of gas or less-80 pounds
-changed from run flat to non- 4 pounds savings total
I always ran on a full tank or half-never let it get below half-now I dont let it get ABOVE 4 gallons. 1 gallon of gas weighs 7 pounds so leaving 12 gallons out is a quick 84 pounds off the vehicle

Grand total-145ish

Does not sound like a HUGE difference but remember a stock 530 manual weighs 3450 per bmw and does 0-60 in 6.4 s. A stock Z4si weighs 3150-a 300 pound difference and listed 0-60 is 5.5 seconds. Almost 1 second difference simply based on weight since their gearing is the same and have the same engine.

So 150 pounds is good for a nice gain in time and feel of the car. Plus the fact I am a light guy-160ish.

Easy to lose weight if you look around your car.

How many times per day do you stop at the gas station?

No offense bud, but why did you buy an E60 if you were so worried about weight?

For a moment, I thought you were saying that YOU had lost 140 pounds!

As well as your list, make sure you don't have any passengers too! LOL

If you're willing to go to this extreme, shouldn't you also remove the back seat as well?

I hope you don't have Comfort Seats...? Man, they're heavy! BTW, use a racing seat for driver and passenger, should save you another 30 kilos.

I still love the e60 for its looks, ride, handling and overall performance however any car I drive I always want the most performance out of the vehicle within reason I can get. I do not drive much at all so 4 gallons lasts me a good 5-6 days easy. I do have comfort seats and would not trade them for the world even though they are heavy but weight loss is all relative. I still lost 140 off of what I already had so even though race seats would be much lighter-I love the e 60 for its lux cruuiser ability and I love those comfort seats. The weight saved is completely useless things such as the spare/jack, un-needed extra gas sitting in my tank-especially considering it saves 80 pounds which is 8 horepower or so.

So for simple little things to save 140 pounds-it is like gaining 14 horsepower if you do weight:hp calculations based on the car. That is the easiest 14 hp you will ever save. Combine that with cold winter temps of 40 degrees compared to summer- You gain approx 1 percent hp per 10 degrees drop so you can gain about 15 hp or so from teh weather plus 15is from a bit of weight gone. That is 30 free and easy hp.

I even noticed how light my car feels. Compared to a 550 that weighs 4000. A 530 weighs 3500 (obviously both without comfort seats etc but considering all else equal) so dropping 140 more pounds that makes it 650 pounds lighter than a 550.

I believe the 535 weighs signigantly more in the 3700 range so the difference is not as great. But the 530 with some weight loss feels very tossable. It also weighs just as little as the 3 series so its not like buying an e60 was heavier than their "smaller" car the e 90.

Also to save 3 pounds per tire from switchign to non-run flats was actually an improvement in handling, comfort and a bit of weight loss is just an added benefit. Nothing I did was extreme. I would never remove the back seat or put racing seats in an e60-my car looks no difference than with all the stuff.

Saw the roof off and make it the first E60 convertible. That should shave a few hundred pounds off. Plus, you can say you had the first E60 convertible too.

Here some more things you may do:
Take one / two wheels off (3 wheeler/ BMW Bike)
Take the passenger and back seats off
Take the roof and windshield off(convertible)
Do not let anyone in the car
Empty the windshield wiper fluid
Stop at each exit for 1-2 G of Gas
Fill the tires with Helium
Drive naked
