Hi - hope someone can help.
I have a 2004 525d se with a bit of a problem
Firstly on the way to work the outside temperature shows as -40!!! I know it has been cold but..... I drive off and it picks up to about normal then goes to +23! It acts erratic on the way home too!
Today I use the car again and the LCD between the speedo and rev counter is almost completely lit and can't be turned down. It is so bright that nothing can be read off it. At the same time fuel gauge, speedo, rev counter and mpg on the 2 circular instruments all read zero!
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Simon
First thing I'd go for is the connectors on the back of the instrument cluster. Take a look HERE that will give some idea as to what needs to be removed for access. Try disconnecting the plugs and reconnecting them. Failing that it may be a trip to the dealers and a new cluster. I guess that there is probably a voltage regulator in there that may have failed.
Whether or not the dealership has the skill and or knowledge to repair is another question. Also you could try a search online for someone who could effect a repair.

The thermometer will need replacing mate. I had the same thing happen in my previous E46 3 Series, and the dealer had to replace it. Was covered under warranty though....
