I am looking to buy this 2008 BMW 550i with 12000km (preused) and it is clear plus certified warranty (160.000km/6 years).

looking to buy 2008 BMW 550i-2008bmw550i.jpg

it has:

6 Speed Automatic Trans
Six-Disc CD Changer
USB Audio Integration
Technology Package
Lane Departure Warning
BMW On-Board Navigation
Head-Up Display
Voice Control
Canada-US Navigation DVD
Premium Package
Comfort Seats, Front
Heated Seats Rear
Park Distance Control
LOGIC7 Sound System
M Sport bumpers

but no Sport Package (the tires are 4x17 - 225, no sport suspension, etc..)

So I wonder that can I put customized or oem sport suspension and stuff?
and performance tires (255 front and 285 rear) on this car ?

Please advice,

I am not sure about the suspension but you can definitely change the wheels to 19s (I think you should). Yet the size you are mentioning is not standard... my advice is that you shoulr go for 275 rear and 245 fronts to avoid rubbing.

Hi miguex,

The car in the picture a M Sport model.

The only thing "wrong" is the 17" Style 116 wheels, probably with winter tires.

Get 18" M135 or 19" M192 OEM BMW wheels and summer tires to them.

Be sure that the tires are the right size!

255 front is not a good idea at all!

You can put 245 and 275 tires with M172 wheels and it will look like an MSport , and anything is possible from a suspension / ride perspective ...............Good Luck

You must keep the circumference of the circle the same. So the correct size would be 245 for the fronts and 275 for the rear if you go staggered.

here are the sizes:

245-40-18 and the rear is 274-35-18 (18")

245-35-19 and the rear is 275-30-19 (19")

Check out the suspension upgrades Dinan offers. Along with 19" rims and the aero kit you will be real close to a 550 Sport.

This is crazy, why would someone order all these great options on the car (technically loaded) and no sports package especially since they have the M-Package! I would change the wheels to 19" because of the M-Bumpers, you need big and fat tires but stick to the official sizes that the other members are talking about. It is a beautiful car, but what a shame, no sports package. The guy that ordered this car originally must have been smoking something when he/she ordered the car and because of that missed the sports package.

One other point is the 550i sport package adds active roll stabilization. No aftermarket upgrade will give quite the same balance of ride and handling that ARS offers. I think the 550i sport package rides great yet handles great in the twistiest of roads.

Wheels & tires would be easy. I'd stick with the factory sport package sizes unless you want to go bigger, but as mentioned keep the same outside tire diameter.

Just out of curiosity you should have your dealer run your VIN and print out the build sheet for the car. As previously noted, I also find it unusual that the 17" wheels/tires are on the car. The options you noted and things like black-out trim give it all the appearances of being a "sport".

I wonder if the wheel/tire setup this was the previous owner's winter shoes. If that's the case, all the suspension goodies are there - you'd look for a wheel/tire package.

I've seen it happen - there is a dealer down in Atlanta I think with a strangely optioned 550 including manual without sport package. Something I've never seen. Betcha that will stick around for a bit..
