Yeah to me even the Logic 7 isn't that good of a sound system... maybe the interior speakers car decent but bass well its just not good enough for me... i need BASS lots of it thats why I got these pupies... 2 Kicker L7's and Rockford Fosgate 1500dB amp.. but pushes out 1650 watts.. after haveing that in your E60 you'll never go back... or you will become def and think anyhting with sound sounds great?

Whoopie Hamann5 & Subterfuse

Somehow I do faintly believe your systems are better then stock
You still have residuals of eardrums left?

Why did you need both of these?

Bose system in my Audi TT is excellent, much more louder than the standard (Hi fi) system in my E60 and with more bass

Why did you need both of these?
Two reasons:

1. I wanted a preamp line driver because the Alpine headunit only puts out 4 Volts. The Precision Power boosts up that voltage nicely. 9 Volts, I think.

2. The 1/3 octave EQ panel was stored in the glovebox when not being adjusted, so I wanted to have some kind of EQ control while driving.... but without having to go through the menu's on the Alpine. Having the knobs right there was nice.... especially because I listen to a lot of music that is recorded at various levels... so being able to tweak here and there while driving was nice.

Hamann5::

Your amp doesn't overheat sitting up on the roof of the trunk like that?

Is the logic 7 system 5.1 or is it dolby pro logic? 5.1 in the UK would mean you need to be playing dvd audio on it to get the benefit as all cds sold here are purely in stereo so 5.1 encoding doesnt exist. Given that you always sit "off centre" in a car anyway it all seems a bit pointless

It is technically neither....

It has a center channel speaker, but the processing is not Dolby 5.1 or DTS, like the Acura TL (for example).

The processing is called Logic 7, and it is some proprietary technology used in this system by Harmon Kardon. It does improve the sound stage noticably.... although I would not call it great stereo, due to my previous experience with high-end audio.

But... that said... I use the Logic 7 processing in the Concert Hall setting on my 545. If I don't use it, the soundstage is strongly biased to the driver side door. By turning on the Concert Hall mode, the soundstage is shifted up front and vocals become more centered.

The Theater setting also images well.... but I find for music the Concert Hall sounds more full.

I also tweaked the EQ settings some, and it helps. I toned down the midrange a bit.

Bose = no highs, no lows

Logic 7 may be slightly better, but after almost a year of ownership, I still doubt if it's worth the steep 1800 price.

I would not be able to listen to my 545 without the Concert setting.

The soundstage without it is unbearable for me.

Since I will not be adding an aftermarket system to a nearly $70,000 BMW, I had to settle for the Logic 7.
