Having had the $650 Bose upgrade in my last Audi and now the $1800 LOGIC 7 5.1 in my 5 series, it is my humble opinion, that there is no discernible difference in sound quality. I have tried every possible combination and just can't justify the price difference. Anyone share this opinion?

I agree. The only thing I noticed was more bass.

I do have good stuff at home and I am very into music.

since i havent heard the audi, i cant compare, but, from a tech standpoint, a 5.1 channel set up is more advanced in terms of what it does so that would make up part of the price difference...also if you have an ear for this stuff I think you could get the logic 7 to sound superior

also, BMW NA is always so smart , they've incorporated the 6 cd changer as part of the package, (the rest of the world would have the option to buy each separate) now thats about $600 of the price right there, so its about $1200 for the stereo which seems reasonable...

i am a BIG audiophile, actually been into it my whole life (even have a few records out there), and at home I do have a BOSE surround set-up....my 5.1 speaker system alone was over $1000, plus the cost of the media receiver to encode the 5.1 (actually i have 7.1 but thats another issue), which was quite costly as well, and when I view it in those terms the 1,200 is considerably less.... IMHO

Bose is awful.

Harmon Kardon is better.... but not lightyears.

There is no such thing as a "good" factory car stereo. PERIOD. There just happen to be some that aren't as bad as most.

I found the Bose in my MB sedan way better than the Hifi in my E61. But...the touring's acoustics are very different from a sedan.
IMO my wifes Mini has a good stereo (HK upgrade).
I should have gotten the 7.1 but found the price too high @ 1770 euro's excluding the changer for 670.

You must listen to the music while the car is moving on the road. That's the real life test of car audio.

Well.... my definition of a "good" car stereo is just different.

My old car had a "good" stereo:

- Alpine CVA-1005 with 6 CD changer in center armrest
- Precision Power PAR-245 Preamp/ 5-band Parametric EQ
- Precision Power DEQ-230 30-band 1/3 octave EQ with control panel in glove box with extension cord for adjustments sitting in driver seat.
- Precision Power FRX-456 active crossover
- Precision Power PSC-226 Phase Shift Controller

- Dynaudio System 220 MKII 5.25" component speakers in custom kick panels
- Dynaudio System 240 MKII 7.00" component speakers in front doors/dash tweeter

Dynaudio speakers driven by Precision Power PC-4100 4 channel amp (4 x 100 Watts)

- 3 JL Audio 10W6 subwoofers in custom, sealed fibreglass enclosure

Subwoofers driven by Precision Power amp (1 x 1400 Watts)

(total system wattage 1800 watts)

Alumapro C.A.P. 15 farad capacitor
Optima yellowtop battery with 200 Amp circuit breaker

My car before that one was even better...

So..... to me..... Bose and HK suck

Yeah to me even the Logic 7 isn't that good of a sound system... maybe the interior speakers car decent but bass well its just not good enough for me... i need BASS lots of it thats why I got these pupies... 2 Kicker L7's and Rockford Fosgate 1500dB amp.. but pushes out 1650 watts.. after haveing that in your E60 you'll never go back... or you will become def and think anyhting with sound sounds great

Compared to the bose system in my dad's ML500 I find the logic7 waaaaayy better.

It was and expensive option, but I'm very pleased with it!
