Doug 999,

Are you using special settings on your Logic 7? I experimented for a half an hour and found I couldn't top the factory presets.

Same here. I thought I could do better manually and ended up back at the presets.

I've had my car a couple of days and so far I haven't had any gripes, except about the sound. I have to admit to being a little sound obsessed in my home stereo stuff, which makes it all the weirder that without comparing them I assumed the Logic 7 would sound better than the standard stereo. I hate to admit, but I upgraded it sound-unheard. Has anyone heard both and liked the standard sound system better?

The audio is the only thing I don't like so much about this car. It's not intolerable, but it has boomy inarticulate bass ("smeared" and monotonic) and a slightly strident high-end. My Lexus RX 300 standard sound system was audiophile-grade by comparison.

A second question: has anyone found settings that correct these flaws?
Try turning the environment setting and everything else done automatically off. And, then use the equalizer to your liking. I was able to top the L7 automatic settings.

We had an 00 Lexus RX300 with standard Pioneer (with a sub woofer hidden somewhere). Now we have an 03 Audi A6 with Bose and an 06 E60 with Logic 7.

In my opinion the Lexus sounded the best even though it was only standard Pioneer, possibly due to its interior shape and volume. The Audi with Bose is second. The Logic 7 in the BMW is third, or worse.

Pioneer should generally sound better than Harmon Kardon.

Znod,

I know it's all subjective, but what are your settings? Also, what are the "environment" settings? Does that mean the two reverb modes (like "Theater")? Those are off.

Thanks for the help.

I heard the L7 in a 750i loaner. I thought it was great. Is it the same system as in the 5-series?

I think so... pretty much the same... but dont forget... some say the stanard stereo is GREAT! so really depends on your taste... For me... the standard stereo wasnt enough.

Yes, I meant the reverb modes. I can get you my exact settings tomorrow if you think they wiil help (let me know), but, for now, they form something of an elongated U--skewed to the right. I have increased the lower range, along the U a little; the U continues dowward below flat, thus, de-emphasizing some of the mid range; and, finally, the U moves upward to empahsize the higher tones some. I hope these settings help you out, but there is nothing particularly innovative about them. Incidentally, we have a very good sound system, but I don't consider myself to be an audiophile.

Take a pic of it or write down the numbers... I would like to try your settings...
