They are independent, you can crank up the EQ then crank up the bass

in my case the EQ is dependent. Meaning for the settings i have given, the R&B setting on the ipod should be used in order to get the gain i acquired.

EDIT: the eq setting is 4672553....there was a 7 in the second frequency but i checked over and its actually a 6, not sure if it would have made a huge difference anyway.
