thank you for this thread. i almost just accepted that there was no tone when locking (as there wasnt on my b6 a4 and all the audi owners acted if i was crazy asking for a confirmation beep)
checked the hood switch and it was upside down (the plastic that holds it is cracked in one portion)
flipped it over, tested and now the car beeps when locking. yay

The system is detecting a system problem and then goes on to arm the system. First guess, absent BMW error codes being pulled, would be a security system switch not working properly. With any luck, it might be the switch under the hood, on the passenger side cabin air filter tray. Open the hood and locate this switch and check out its installation and function.
