My Ride: 2007 Mercedes Benz e63 AMG
Question

I was giving the car a super wash today and notice a number of tiny orange specs on the paint - almost rust colored. 90% would wipe off with a little pressure from the sponge, but there were really a lot of them, and it got me wondering what the deal was...Sure its not rust or corosion?

The car lives inside my garage, so its not tree debris, etc.

They were all the size of a pin head, some a bit bigger.

Anyone...anyone....anyone?

" Fallout" Little pieces of metal from train brakes get embedded in the clear coat. When they get to eventually rusting, that's what you see. This usually happens on vehicles transported by rail, but you can get it from other sources, just from your car being outside. GM at one point (and still might) would give you a one-time detail to remove it. BMW might as well, maybe if your car was carried from the port to your location by rail. A good detailer can get rid of it by claying your car.

I had the same thing on my sti. It ended up being paint that wasn't dry which was splattered on my car while driving through a construction zone. The dealer fixed it for about 100 dollars. Meanwhile a mustang of mine had similar specs which did end up being rust, and it was only 2 years old (and it was white in color also).

Was informed by a detailer that the little spots are a result of things in the atmosphere and that they will re-appear over time?

I noticed this on my car yesterday when I washed it. The funny thing is, it wasn't there when I washed the car. But it was there 5 minutes later when I was drying it. It was still soft and wiped right off. I have seen this from time to time. Any idea what it is? Pollen maybe?
