Is there a list somewhere of all the check contol symbols? I've tried to do a search, but can't find any. I also can't find a list of them in my owners manual. I had a symbol pop up this morning, but before I could see what it was on the iDrive, it went away. It was a triangle around what looked like a gear or a circle or something. My car is an 04' 525i.

I don't know of a place where all the check control symbols are listed but if a check control message is active, you can read it by going to the "i" (settings) menu going to the check control messages screen. If the message is temporary,
obviously it'll clear itself so it won't be visible on that screen.

The gear message you describe may have been the warning that pops up when the transmission is in neutral and a door is opened. I think the text of the message is something like "secure vehicle from rolling"...

Or, the symbol you saw may have been an ice warning. I believe this pops up when the outside temp drops to 38 degrees (Not positive on the degrees where it pops on). I know the first time mine came on, it startled me as I had no idea what was going on.

Happened to me yesterday. The warning came on at 37 degrees.

That must have been what it was. I think Maybe it was a snowflake symbol or something, but the temp was 37 degrees. I was worried it was my tranny or something!

That's right -- snowflake symbol (and gong) shows up at 37 degrees. If you were moving when it went off, then it's likely not the gear symbol that I mentioned before...

Not that I'm aware of. BMW's have had the freeze warning for a long time now. I don't know when it started but my E30 M3 had it back in 1989...
