List of Cheap and Easy Repairs
Over the course of owning our e60 535i for the past 160k miles, I've had several issues that cost $$ to repair but also several issues that were fixed with little/no cost (DIY). Here is the list of low/no cost repairs:
Swapping and Cleaning Vanos Solenoids (Cost $0)
This was the most recent repair, 10 months ago and everything is fine. First time cleaning solenoids since ownership. Made a big difference on lower RPM engine performance.

Coolant overflow tube cracking (Cost <$10)
The use of plastic on the OEM design was a poor design. A metal tube or even continuous rubber hose would've been better.

Battery Drain /Failed IBS Sensor (Cost $0)
Disconnected failed IBS sensor and replaced with new AGM Battery. I say Cost $0 because the battery had to be changed anyway, disconnecting the sensor didn't cost anything. System has worked flawlessly for the past 3/yr 45k miles. In the first 50k miles of ownership, the dealer replaced the battery twice under warranty.
Steering Angle Sensor Fix (Cost $0)
My $0.02 Steering Angle Sensor Fix
Phantom Auto Misadjusting side mirrors (Cost $0)
Fixing the phantom auto misadjusting side mirror position TSB 513608
Any other cheap and easy fixes out there?
