It appears that after I had SW version 12.2 installed my car's lights come on during "strange" times. I have the lights set to auto and the "daylight running lights" option is off (verified at the dealer a few days ago). However, now my lights come on during the day (full sunshine) but not at all times. Sometimes I start out on my drive to work and they're off and a few miles down the road they have turned on -- why, I don't know since it's as bright as can be outside.
Has anyone else had this problem before? Is the light sensor going bad?

My Ride: 2011 F10 528i - Imperial Blue, Oyster/Black, Premium, Premium 2, Cold Weather, Xenons.
Yep, its a common issue... I had mine adjusted the last time the car was at the shop, and I think they went the wrong way on the sensitivity of the sensor. IIRC.. there are 3 settings for the sensitivity. High/Normal/Low, and they must be reversed or something....

i asked them to adjust it for me when i was in the shop last time but they refused . i wanted to adjust it to high since i'm having the same problem as you but i haven't updated my software yet. again, they refused to update it for me .

Since this is a common problem, would the rear tail lights bother other cars?
I use to switch the lights from auto to off when they went on, but now I just leave then on.

Hmmm.... that's not good news. I was hoping there was an "easy" fix for this. My dealer adjusted the sensitivity without giving me any grief (I must say they have been a very good dealer so far). Maybe the guy adjusted it to the wrong setting -- he said he went from "sensitive" to "normal". Made sense to me at the time.
Anyhow, one thing I don't like about the lights being on during the day (besides being annoying) is that I'm afraid the Xenon lights will "wear" out sooner and thus cost me $$ to replace sooner. But maybe they last so long that this isn't an issue -- does anyone know?

Xenon bulbs are supposed to last 3x-4x longer then standard bulbs, so you should get about 10 years or so out of them. The first 4 years/50,000 miles they are covered in the US.
