I use highest octane available.
Have sport package which means run flats summer rated and wide. Tires and wheels like dozens in this forum.
Can't light or even get a chirp from wheels even in m1, steptronic doesn't learn on that. DSC off.
It's eaier to ask if it's just me in this forum than do dyno. Dyno doesn't allow for car suspension or motion and other engine controls (limits).

Call me conservative, but the car is just too tight and too expensive to go around smoking the rear - if you want to do this, get a cheap Mustang
I couldn't agree with you more.

One thing I wish BMW would allow is to turn off traction control without all of the DSC functions. Unless I am in the rain, I hate when the traction does kick in - just way too much jerking.
They do. You have to push and hold the button down untill you see the I-Drive message and the symbol on your dash.

It's not a 16 year old that every stop sign is an excuse to burn rubber!
If you cant make the tire break free, then you have no measure of your limitations of the car. Every skilled driver should know the limits of the vehicle. As for lighting up the tires, once is enough, ifyou can do it.

People, I'm just trying to explore the limits and capabilities of the 545i. I don't plan to do it frequently, most high end sports enthusiats that I know would want to try it at least once!

You know heli ca, I bet most of the other hundreds of members of this forum haven't lit them up unless they have smg!
It may be the car is built to not make it easy to break the tires free whether 530 or 545 even with dsc off.

You're right its not easy to light them up with a auto. Cant speak for the 545 but with the E39 540 I was unsuccessful in spinning or chirping the wheels off the line. Something they do for some reason it lacks power starting off the line with the auto trannie.

With SMG? Never tried. too scared to LOL

Awh come on. I just tried the "Acceleration Assist" and lit them up. Probably a little too humid and the road was probably damp, but got them spinning, a little too much I think. I will try again during the daytime and more traction, and now know what to expect. Don't plan to do it too often.

Hey CRRobert,

Did you notice how hard the car shifts 1 to 2 ands 3 to 4, etc. after the darn wheel(s) stop spinning? Once the tires wear down around 1/2 way it's pretty much a One-Wheel-Show (or so I've heard ) but man does it shift hard. Too bad there wasn't a way to get those shifts without the "wheel-spin" option!

Turned off DSC twice in 9500 miles and done it. Its very easy to do and twice was enough. Once with OEM CDV and once with modified CDV. I really think its a lot of un-neccessary wear and tear on the drive train.
